FAQs about making fudge:

You can use milk chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips, white chocolate and even dark chocolate chips. I haven’t tried white chocolate chips, but I’d be willing to! The important thing to remember is to USE REAL CHOCOLATE, not CHIPITS…Chipits are not real chocolate so they won’t melt properly.

No, this recipe requires SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK. Make sure you DO NOT use regular condensed milk, evaporated milk, or any other type of milk or cream. This fudge requires the syrupy consistency and sweetness of the sweetened condensed milk.

I use salted butter. You can use unsalted butter, but maybe add a pinch of salt to the mixture.

This fudge comes together in minutes, really it’s that fast. When making it on the stove, you only want to melt everything together over low-medium heat, DO NOT boil the mixture. You just want to melt and stir until the mixture is smooth (this should only take about 3 minutes).

Technically you can but it will be too soft. If you can let it cool in the pan, in the fridge for at least 2 hours, or even better, overnight for the best results. The fudge needs time to set.

Fudge is thick and sticky, so make sure to use a sharp knife. You might have to clean the blade off occasionally…a clean blade makes it much easier to cut.

It might be because the ingredients didn’t have enough melting time? Did you use real chocolate? Did you let it set in the fridge for long enough?

Keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week or more…if it lasts that long! 😉 I do confess that I just leave mine at room temperature for a few days…it gets eaten up up very quickly!

Absolutely! Store it in an airtight container or ziplock bag in the freezer for up to 2 months. Let thaw at in the fridge.

Sure! Chop up about 1 cup of pecans or walnuts and stir them into the melted chocolate mixture.

How many squares does this fudge recipe make?

You can make as many squares of fudge that you like. I just so happen to cut this into 7×7 for 49 bite sized squares, but you can make them bigger and get 36 squares or 25 squares…you get the idea.

Fudge Recipe Tips:

  • Line the pan! You must line an 8 x 8 baking pan with either foil or parchment paper so you can easily remove the fudge from the pan in order to cut it.
  • DO NOT turn your back from the stove! Make sure you are constantly stirring the chocolate mixture. It’s done melting so fast. If you leave it unattended it could burn or turn into a glob very quickly.
