Welcome to my home decorated for fall!

Welcome to my Fall Home Tour, I’m Jo-Anna and I’m so happy to have you here in my home! Don’t you just love fall?! It’s my favourite. I love the cool temperatures and bright blue skies. I love the changing leaves, crunchy walking paths, the smell of fall in the air, and all the cozy fall food. I especially love to decorate and bring fall into our home. The colours, textures and feeling of fall in my home makes me so happy.

Come on in, it’s fall inside!

Let’s start our little tour at the front door…I haven’t quite decorated my porch for fall yet, that’s still to come. But I did manage to make a Fall Floral Grapevine Wreath for my front door that I’m loving! It has all the colours for fall that I decorated with this year…terracotta and blue.

Terracotta and Blue for Fall

For some reason terracotta and blue are the colours that I’m loving for fall this year. The warm rust, orange, terracotta hues of fall that remind me of trees turning. And blue for our gorgeous fall skies. The combination of the two work so perfectly together.

My decorating plan.

I actually didn’t really have a decorating plan, other than I knew the look I wanted. So I started looking for things in terracotta and blue, and began collecting things for my fall home in the summer. I gathered pillows and decorations as I found them. I’m sure you’ve noticed, as I have, that our seasons and holidays go into the stores earlier and earlier in the year now, and you have to grab things when you see them, or they’re gone. It’s just the way it is. I’ve learned not to wait when I find something I love.

Fall in my Living Room.

The easiest place, and my most favourite, to decorate is my living room. We spend a lot of time in here so I love it to feel and be cozy. Not just look cozy, it has to actually be cozy. With loads of pillows and soft blankets.

All the pillows. No, seriously.

I know, I know, there are a lot of pillows on this couch. This look isn’t for everyone, but it certainly is for me! These aren’t just decorative pillows either, these are soft, cozy pillows. I fill each pillow with down inserts so they’re pliable and soft. I encourage all couch sitters to dig right in and make themselves comfortable.

Accents with big impact.

Pillows are also the best way to accent a space for a season or holiday. When I change out the pillows, the whole look of my living room changes. So I went for big impact and gathered quite a collection of pillows that I LOVE LOVE LOVE. I’ll reuse many of them as the seasons change too…I can picture the blue ones in my winter living room too.

Soft, soothing and cozy.

You may have also noticed that I placed down a new rug in here. Last fall I had a black + white rug in this space, but I just didn’t love it. Do you know that feeling when you buy something you think you love, then you get it in your home and you immediately dislike it and know it was a wrong choice? Yes, well that rug was that for me. It was a gorgeous rug, but it just wasn’t a good fit for this space. I need soft, soothing and cozy, so I had to switch it out for this beautiful cream wool rug that I adore. It’s exactly what I was looking for.

My Simple Fall Mantel and Fireplace

I don’t change my mantel and fireplace shelves much with the seasons. They’re kind of a beautiful fixture on their own, so I don’t think they need much. There’s a fine line decorating these pieces before it gets too busy and cluttered. So I really just added some seasonal coloured candles, a few matching decor pieces and one pumpkin. It’s enough.

A Fall Table Setting.

My other favourite space to decorate for the season is my dining area! This is our every day eating nook that sits just off of our kitchen and right behind the living room. Our main floor is an open concept space and you can see everything, so I like it all to match and flow. So I thought it would be nice to set the table for you!

A rustic fall table setting.

I really enjoyed putting this rustic fall table setting together. But trust me, our table isn’t set like this everyday. I like to do this for special fall dinners, Sunday Suppers, and I’ll likely set it this way for our Thanksgiving which is in early October here in Canada.

Rustic with terracotta and blue.

Again, because I love terracotta and blue this fall, I carried these colours onto my fall dining table. Around my simple plate settings, I grouped together orange candles, blue decorative pumpkins and a small bouquet of orange and blue fall foliage. I like the rustic and casual look of this…it has a really cozy harvest feel. And it matches with the rest of my fall home. 😉

Mixing old and new.

I used a mixture of old and new dishes on this table. I found some amazing maple wooden salad bowls and smoky drinking glasses on a thrifting adventure…I think they look perfect on this fall table.

I love how this table setting turned out, and how it incorporates the fall colours I’m loving so much this season.

Now that my home is decorated for fall, it’s time to stop and enjoy it. Have a slice of pumpkin bread with a cup of tea, and relax. Happy fall friends!
