My Fall Front Porch

I finally, finally got a chance to put this fall porch post together…it’s taken me a while since I posted this sneak peak on Instagram.

I guess life just gets in the way, and the next thing you know it’s October and you’ve almost missed the internet boat on fall decor!  If you are on Pinterest at all you know that it’s all Halloween and all Christmas now!  Yikes.  I’m ok with that though because I’ve just decided to be one of those bloggers that stays on season, if only because I’m always trying to catch up on things, and blogging is no different!  Plus I like to be in the moment too…if it’s fall, I’m in fall mode.

Speaking of fall, after our Snowtember episode, we’ve actually had an amazing fall!  The temperatures have been warm, the skies sunny and the trees gold and red.  It’s gorgeous here and we’re trying to soak up every moment of it!  Because it’s been so nice out we are able to enjoy our fall porch and sit out there with a tea and enjoy the sunshine and fall colours.

Come take a look!

Let’s start at the front door!  I couldn’t resist posting this picture…I was sitting on the step with the door wide open and I looked back and our kitty was hanging out in the sunshine.  Even she loves this part of our home.  🙂

Anyway here is what you see when you come up to our front door.  I hung my new fall wreath that I made and love…it looks so pretty against the soft yellow door.  Then I added a new rug and a couple of planted mums.  Just simple and clean, yet perfectly fall!

Pretty.

And because I can’t put together an autumn porch without pumpkins, I bought a few to line my steps.  Then they will do double duty by being our carving pumpkins for Halloween.

But my favourite part of my porch is this little nook off to the side where I put together planters and boxes of fall plants, herbs and squash.

I just really love the look of ornamental kale and gourds together…it’s rustic, colourful and so pretty!

I kept things really simple this year, but I love how it all came together.  It makes me feel happy to come up my front steps after being away for the day, to see a pretty piece of autumn on my porch.  Sigh.  I love fall.

  1. Such a welcoming and calming entrance to your home. Love your front door, do you know the colour name and brand?

    1. Thank you Chardawneh! We just recently painted our front door and we love the colour too! We used CIL Realife Ultra Premium Exterior Paint for Siding, Doors & Trim Paint with Built-In Primer, in Satin. And the colour is called Creamy.

      1. Do you have any problems with aphids being attracted to that shade of yellow? I live in Calgary too, and we can’t use the slide in the backyard certain times of the year when lots of aphids are out because they cling to it because of the yellow. We just got a new front door installed that needs painting, and I like how your’s looks beside blue accents on your house (similar to the way ours is). Thanks.

  2. I love the look you gave your house. It’s clean and fresh and country casual at the same time. Is that a succulent at the bottom of the steps? It’s great and so are all your color and container choices.

  3. I had to say that I was brought to your blog from a pin I saw and thought “this girl is fabulicious! THEN I see that you’re also Canadian and I thought …Yea this girl RAWKS! talented, appreciative, beautiful and well yes I have to say it because I’m Canadian too, but
CANADIAN GIRLS RAWK IT! Keep up the awesome job I enjoy and look forward to more posts!

  4. Dear Jo-Anna, I just found your blog today on the Canadian Tire website! I’m impressed because your decor ideas are realistic and attainable for regular busy moms who love to decorate just like I do. Home decor is what I live for but often the ideas in design mags are just so expensive. I like that you are a real person and guess what? I live in Calgary too in the SE. I just moved here last summer. We bought a dated and dowdy fixer upper that we are slowly bringing up to my decor standard. Thanks for the Christmas decor ideas. Now I’m off to Canadian tire! Have a great day!

    1. Hi Karen!
Thank you so much for your comment – you made my day! Being real and sharing realistic beautiful ideas with real people is my exact goal for my blog! It means so much to me to know that this is coming across! I hope you enjoy all of your Christmas decorating!
