A Cozy Fall Porch

Welcome to my Cozy Fall Porch!  Adding simple touches to your porch like fall chrysanthemums, pumpkins and candles, makes for a cozy and inviting welcome. Hello fall!

I love to decorate my outdoor spaces for the different seasons…especially fall. Last year I shared my cozy fall patio (which I love love love), and this year I’m sharing our simple and Cozy Fall Front Porch.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Sometimes I think, I can’t share that, it’s not perfect. But seriously, life isn’t.  I had hopes of painting our porch this summer but I don’t know where summer went and how it’s suddenly fall! Oh well, I guess this will have to be a project for next year and I’m just fine with that. So you’re getting my imperfect porch but that’s just life and it didn’t stop me from making this space one that makes me smile every time we come home. All this to say, don’t let imperfection stop you from making a beautiful home you love.

Transitioning from Summer to Fall

After a long, hot summer, by the time it was the end of August I was ready to compost my summer flowers and replace them with fall mums.  At this point in the season, I’m done with summer but still want to enjoy beautiful flowers so mums are the perfect solution. And because I’m in love with rich golds, oranges and reds this year, those are the colours of the mums I chose.

All. The. Mums.

Mums are such a showstopper flower! I mean seriously, look at how big and luscious and beautiful they are! I also really like that they require very little care, they’re hearty, they come in many different colours and they’re inexpensive. All things that make them perfect for fall decorating.

Pumpkins are the ultimate fall decor.

Is it even a fall porch without pumpkins? Haha! Not here. If I had my way, and it wasn’t so expensive and a little excessive, I would absolutely load up my porch steps with dozens and dozens of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes. But I just can’t do that so instead I bought several small pumpkins that I hope to eventually turn into pumpkin pie.

I layered all the little bitty pumpkins in amongst the mums and I love how it looks. It’s just enough.

The finishing touches.

Then to finish things off I added a wicker chair that I bought for $15!!! at a garage sale this summer…it’s the perfect addition to my porch. And to make it look pretty for fall I tossed on some fall coloured pillows and a fall plaid blanket. Cozy. Then I hung my DIY Fall Wreath, and added a simple fall welcome mat.  Hello fall.

Tips for Creating a Fall Porch

  • Add chrysanthemums. Pots of this classic flower instantly turns a porch into fall!  Use an uneven number of pots for the best visual.
  • Layer in pumpkins! Scatter in some mini or large pumpkins around the mums.
  • Add a fall wreath to your door!  Here are some really pretty (and easy) DIY fall wreaths for inspiration.
  • Hang twinkly lights. Twinkle lights create such a pretty and inviting mood.
  • Add a fall doormat. Changing out doormats for the different seasons is such an easy way to decorate.
  • Make it cozy! Add simple cozy touches like a chair with fall pillows and blankets. Place out some candles.
  • Shop around your garden. If you have pots of herbs and grasses, they look lovely layered into a fall porch.
