If you’re looking for an easy and delicious appetizer for the holidays (think Christmas or New Year’s Eve), these Fig Jam Crostinis are SO Good.

Just a few simple ingredients

  • baguette
  • fig jam
  • goat cheese
  • prosciutto
  • fresh basil
  • olive oil, salt and pepper

Perfect for parties!

I have made this fig jam crostinis recipe several times over many holidays, and it is always such a hit! This is one of those appetizers that you just know will go over well at a party! And a great thing about it too, is that you can have it made and ready to go in about 15 minutes. The longest part is toasting the bread, then the rest is just assembly.

Fig and Goat Cheese Crostini Recipe Tips

  • BAGUETTE: I used a baguette that was about 21 inches long for this appetizer.
  • JAM: This recipe calls for using fig jam. You can also use apricot jam or even peach jam. Some readers have also used blackberry jam and loved it!
  • PROSCIUTTO: I buy mine at our local Italian centre, but you can find it in pretty much any grocery store.
  • BASIL: Use fresh basil, it’s the most flavourful.
  • FLAVOUR OPTION: Feel free to drizzle these with a splash of balsamic vinegar or balsamic reduction. Yum.
  • MAKE AHEAD You can make this ahead of time, BUT it’s much better served fresh.

The Basic Recipe:

Basically you need: 1 tbsp goat cheese, 1 tbsp fig jam, 1/2 slice of prosciutto and 1 basil leaf per crostini.

The flavours all work together fabulously! You get some sweet, some salt, some soft, and some crunchy in every bite. Delish!

Ingredients

  • 1 baguette (about 21 inches)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • coarse salt
  • fresh ground pepper
  • 4 ounces plain goat cheese (at room temperature)
  • 1 small jar of fig jam (you need about 1 cup)
  • slices of prosciutto (about 12 slices or more)
  • leaves of fresh basil (about 1 cup)

Instructions

Prepping the Crostini Bread:

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Slice the baguette into 1/2 inch pieces. I like to cut mine at an angle.
  • Brush each piece with olive oil, then sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Bake on a baking sheet in the oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the bread is lightly browned and crisp.
  • When they are done, let cool completely.

Putting the Crostinis Together:

  • Basically you need: 1 tbsp goat cheese, 1 tbsp fig jam, 1/2 slice of prosciutto and 1 basil leaf per crostini.
  • Spread on about 1 tbsp goat cheese.
  • Then spread on about 1 tbsp fig jam.
  • Roll together 1/2 slice of prosciutto with 1 basil leaf, and place it on top of the fig jam.
  • Serve immediately! Enjoy!

This is always a crowd pleaser. The plate always disappears! I’ve used apricot jam and it’s delicious as well. I’ve also drizzled balsamic over the top.

I made these before with some homemade blackberry jam a friend had given me. I found fig preserves and want to make this tomorrow for a birthday dinner for my mom. Can I bake the baguette today and then assemble tomorrow to save myself some time? Thank you for this wonderful recipe! It disappears quickly every time I have made it!

    1. Hi Debbie! I’m so happy you enjoy them! I think you absolutely can bake the baguette today, just make sure to wrap it tight so that it doesn’t dry out.

Made for a backyard party. It was a hit! Sweet salty crunchy. I will definitely be making again! 😍

  5. Can you substitute the just cheese with mozzarella slices. I have a lot on hand and need to use. Thanks

    1. I don’t see why not! The flavour will be more mild due to the type of cheese mozza is, but I think it would be good!
