My Summer Patio!

I can’t even begin to tell you of the relief I feel that we can now use our deck without needing to wear toques and mittens.  Nope, it’s flip flop and fancy drink season on the patio!  Can I get a woot-woot?!

We’ve been busy over the last couple of weeks getting our patio all ready to go.  We washed everything down, repainted the deck, trim and railings, bought some new chairs and cushions and planted all of our flowers.  It’s been back breaking work but so satisfying now that it’s all done.  So over the last couple of days I’ve had some fun fluffing everything up and making it all look pretty.  And all that’s left to do is pour some lemonade and sit back and relax!  It’s about time really…  😉

So let’s have a look at how things are set up…we built a 2-tier platform deck which gives us 2 living spaces…the top tier is set up as a conversation area, and the bottom tier is set up for dining.  The reason we built our deck this way is because the top tier doesn’t get a speck of sunshine, so we built the deck outwards to capture the sun.  And because it’s low to the ground we didn’t need to add railings…I love this because the deck is nice and wide open.

The top tier is our conversation area and it is very colourful.  I love it!  This spot doesn’t get any sun, so the bright and cheery colours are very welcome here.  I think my most favourite thing about our patio though is this turquoise coloured furniture that I painted a couple of years ago…it’s so fun.  I’m actually still amazed that I painted something such a bright colour…it was way out of my comfort zone…that and the hostess cart I painted hot pink.  #whatishappeningtome?

But all the bright colours go so well together.  The more the merrier, right?

Summer Patio 9{A Pretty Life}

On a sidenote…I really need to paint that little table in the centre.  It’s driving me crazy.  Any colour suggestions?  What about yellow?

Summer Dahlia Wreath {A Pretty Life}

I also dug up this Summer Dahlia Yarn Wreath that I made a couple of years ago, and hung it on our yellow door.  It matches perfectly!

I added some pretty pink flowers…you can never have too many flowers!  Especially petunias, they’re my fave!

Summer Patio 5{A Pretty Life}

And here is our dining area.  With the warm weather we try to eat out here as much as we can…our winters are so long that it just doesn’t feel right to stay inside when the sun is shining!  We also try to use our fireplace out here as much as we can…we just push back the table and cozy on up.

And I just had to share these pillows I found!  How much fun are they?!

And these cushions…my fave.

Herb Container Garden {A Pretty Life}

I also put together a small herb garden.  My most favourite plants to grow (besides petunias) are herbs.  I absolutely love being able to go out to my patio and clip fresh herbs for my cooking.  It’s such a satisfying feeling, not to mention so handy!  This year I’m growing sage, oregano, thyme, rosemary, lavender, basil, chives and parsley.

So there you go, that’s our summer patio!  There’s nothing left to do now but enjoy it!

  1. What a beautiful patio! I’d love to take a seat right there with a cool, tropical drink. Thanks for sharing and Happy Friday! 🙂

  2. Thanks for sharing your adorable patio. I love everything about it–the colors, flowers, herbs, cushions and fireplace. I live in Seattle with long, dark winters and a lot of gray days. So summer is a time to be outside and colorful! The furniture looks really pretty against your gray house and I think you should paint the table yellow, too. I’m sure the s’mores and watermelon are delicious, but if I was there on a summer evening, I would opt for the K-J chardonnay and the parmesan-garlic-balsamic Naan!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind comment Robin! We are really enjoying this space – our winters are sooooo long, so we try to spend as much time out here as possible! And I’m with you on the Naan…perfect summer eats! Have a wonderful week!

  3. I love this post! We have worked so hard on our backyard too and love spending every minute out there that we can now that the warm weather is here.
    I love the bright colours and your cushions. Loving the pink trolley too. And I think you should keep the table in the middle of the turquoise chairs in the “shabby-chic” look that it’s currently in 🙂

  4. I am just loving your painted furniture! I call it Aqua as that is my new favorite color right now!! Definitely paint the table yellow, the same as the cushion. It would look great. All your accents are perfect. What a fun place to hang out.

  5. It’s just so pretty! I love the bright colours, but I would have the whole house bright if it were just me!
    I was just thinking how great your furniture looked with the yellow door so I think definitely yes to the yellow table.

  6. This is so pretty! The colors…WOW! I just recently did a round up of yard and garden projects..well I am adding this too it! you can find it here 🙂

  7. SO clean and colorful! I love all the bright colors, it makes it look like such a fun place to spend time outdoors! Thanks for linking up over at Motivational Monday!

  8. I saw your feature on JAG linky party from last week! I love all of your bright colors and its nice to see how you built a 2-tiered deck. We are in the middle of planning a new deck and have a similar layout as you do with a nook in the home and a side door. Thanks for sharing 🙂

  9. Absolutely love this area!!! The bright colors are beautiful! I’m a huge fan of color but tend to stay away from it while decorating my own place…no idea why, maybe I need a break from color (I’m a middle school art teacher). But this… I may just have to add some bright colors due to this. I’m going to follow you so I can check out more of your inspirational posts!

    As for your cute little table in the middle, what about a slightly darker color? Maybe a rich navy blue? Or a blue like the flamingo pillow?

  10. You nailed that deck. All the matching beautiful colors that makes you deck pop! These are the colors I too have on my patio. I think I need to spray paint my patio table and chairs set. Thanks for sharing.
