My Black, Orange & White Halloween Mantel
It’s Halloween mantel time! Creepy black vines. Crows. White squash. Orange pumpkins. And a haunted house. Spookalicious!
Spooky day to you friends! The official countdown to Halloween is on…only 9 days from today! So costume shopping and decorating is on in full force in our home! We’re even hosting a Halloween party for our friends this year so I have more incentive to get things looking as spooktacular as possible! So first things first, I tackled the mantel. Because the mantel is so central in our home, once it’s decorated the rest just falls in to place!
This year I didn’t want to buy any decorations. Nothing. I always want to when I see all the great stuff in the big stores, but I vowed to try not to spend a dime, so I didn’t. Well except for the pumpkins which you have to buy every year for carving! This years mantel is very different from my mantel from last year, and the previous year.
I knew I wanted to go back to the traditional colours of Halloween: Black, Orange and White. Which made things very easy because I have a lot of decor in those colours. I just started playing with the things I had and this is what I came up with. (oh heh, I even see that my 4 year old added a decoration…can you find it? #lego)
Creepy black vines. Crows. White squash. Orange pumpkins. And a haunted house. Spookalicious!
I did have some big help from my 9 year old son. He designed and cut out the haunted house! Isn’t it great?! It adds just the perfect spooky touch!
I love all the quirky textures and traditional Halloween colours.
There’s just so much fun to be had with Halloween decorating…and it doesn’t have to be an expensive affair. Sometimes shopping around in the things you already have works the best…it’s amazing what we have on hand and don’t even realize it! I’m learning to take stock of what I have, then buy things if I need them…not the other way around which is what I used to do!
Here’s another view with a peek at my side bookshelves…I like to carry the decor over in to them a little. I think I actually like this years mantel the most. My kids said it was their favourite too! They love that the vines look like they’re growing out of the walls!
Do you decorate your home for Halloween? Do you have a mantel or vignette that’s all decked out? Leave a link to it in the comments so we can stop by and see! Thank you so much for stopping by today!
Hi Jo-Anna! I love what you did with the mantle, it’s so much fun! The black leaves are amazing!
Thank you Amy!
Your mantel looks great — I love the spooky haunted house! I have a great mantel/fireplace, but it’s oddly placed in my house (in the lower level “rec room” that my husband is slowly taking over as his office, as opposed to the living room on the main level of the house, so I’m never sure what the focal point of decorating the house should be. Usually I end up decorating the table in the entryway, then sprinkling whatever decorations I have leftover through the rest of the house.
Thank you so much Sarah! I too love to decorate in the entryway…I say decorate where ever it feels right!!
This is so fabulous, Jo-Anna! I love your garland and your haunted house on the mantel. My girls would go crazy for this. Anything black and spooky, and they’re sold!
Thank you Tara! We had fun putting this one together!
I absolutely love the haunted house … kudos to Q for this masterpiece!!
