10 Simple and Spooky Halloween Decorating Ideas
Do you decorate for Halloween? If you’re looking for some simple ideas to add a little spook to your home, here are 10 decorating ideas that are fun and easy to do! And scary but not too scary for kids.
Add some spooky to your kitchen!
I love to add simple Halloween decor to my kitchen. It can be as simple as a few pumpkins placed on the table as a centerpiece, a new tea towel or little jars filled with candy.
Decorate with candles.
Set the spooky mood with candles! This time of year I always have candles lit in the evening, I just love how they make a room feel. And at Halloween I bust out the spooky candles…I found some great skull candles at the dollar store that I love. You can also use flameless candles…the possibilities are endless! Light them at night to get that cozy but eerie feel!
Shop the dollar store.
I always have the best luck finding Halloween decor at dollar stores (like Dollar Tree, Dollarama etc.). Inexpensive items like LED candles, skeleton candle holders, creepy crawly hands, paper bat and mouse cut outs, garland, witch hats, pumpkins, lights, spider webs, bugs…the list goes on and on!
Skulls everrrrrrrrywhere.
Is it even Halloween if you don’t have a million skulls all over your home?! haha! But seriously though, skulls are the best Halloween decoration…they’re perfectly scary. I place them on shelves, my mantel, in glass jars, in cloches, in lanterns on the front porch… My favourite though, is this DIY cloche full of mini skulls and string lights.
Add creepy bugs!
Sprinkle in some spiders, add beetles and bugs to mantels and tables…bug are the creepiest!
Put carved pumpkins on display.
Is there any decoration more classic than carved jack-o-lanterns? Even though these don’t last very long, I still love to add them to my decor, especially out on my front porch for trick-or-treaters. You can also buy faux pumpkins that are meant for home decor, or even carve out your own from the craft pumpkins at Michaels.
Make a wreath.
My love of wreath making knows no boundaries, so of course I make them for Halloween! Here are some of my most favourite ones! Hang them on your front door to greet guests, hang them on your mantel…anywhere!
Decorate your mantel or a vignette.
A simple way to decorate for Halloween is to decorate your mantel or create a little vignette. They are great spaces to load up the decor! Add paper bats, skulls, art, candles, skeletons and more.
Fill glass beakers with coloured water.
A really fun thing I like to do for Halloween decor is to fill glass beakers with water in Halloween colours, like green, purple, red or orange. You can find them at craft stores or sometimes dollar stores. These are such easy DIY Halloween decorations.
Put a bat (or several) on it!
I love the look of a colony of flying bats, especially if it looks like they’re coming out of a fireplace! This is such a simple and inexpensive decorating idea. You can buy plastic or paper bats at craft stores, dollar stores, or you can even make them yourself.
Decorate with pillows!
You know my love of pillows, so of course I think there should be loads of Halloween pillows on the couch! This is such a cozy and simple way to add a little Halloween to your home.
I hope you enjoyed these simple and spooky Halloween decoration ideas…which are also great Halloween party decor for a Halloween party!
