About this recipe:

This apple butter is made in a slow over an 8 – 10 hour period. This length of time is necessary to allow the apples to break down to make a smooth apple spread. But don’t be afraid of the length of time it takes to make it, it’s really very simple! All you have to do is put the ingredients into a crock pot and let it simmer, then you have the most delicious treat!

Ways to Serve Apple Butter:

  • Add it to baked Brie or any of your favourite cheeses.
  • Make a ham and Brie cheese sandwich, and spread on some apple butter.
  • Add it to a grilled cheese sandwich.
  • Serve alongside roast pork, or with pork chops.
  • Enjoy with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
  • Spread on toast, biscuits or English Muffins.
  • Put it on pancakes or waffles.
  • It’s also really delicious on oatmeal.

Apple Butter Recipe Tips

  • APPLES: Any type of apple works for this apple butter recipe. I used McIntosh apples but you can use Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, Honey Crisp, or Gala.
  • TIMING: This recipe is for 8 hours on LOW in the slow cooker. I do mention 8 – 10 hours only because some apples cook down faster than others, so if you notice that after 8 hours the apples still seem too hard, cook longer.
  • STORAGE: Store in airtight sterile jars in the fridge for up to a week.

Apple Butter + Baked Brie = AMAZING

Apples and Brie are a match made in Heaven! This creamy apple butter over a baked Brie is the perfect fall appetizer! Apples, cinnamon + spices with melted cheese…SO delicious! Here are these quick instructions:

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F.
  • Place a Brie cheese wheel in an oven proof serving dish.  Score the top with a knife, then place it in the oven for about 5 minutes, until the brie is softened.
  • Then mound about 1/2 cup of the apple butter on top of the brie, and bake for about 3-4 minutes more.
  • Serve with crackers or chunks of bread.
  • Enjoy!

Note: You may notice in this picture that the apple butter is not smooth. I wanted the mixture to be chunky on top of the Brie…I just like the texture better.  I just took about a 1/2 cup of the apple butter out of the slow cooker before I blended the rest. This step of course, is entirely up to you, the puréed apple butter is delicious too.

    1. I love how you served this with brie. I feel as though I always see raspberries with brie so it’s a nice change. Also, aren’t those Lesley Stowe’s crackers great (assuming that is what they are)?

    2. This looks delicious!! I love any type of fruit ‘butter’. Last week I made pumpkin butter. Have you had it mixed in vanilla yogurt? YUM!! I’ll be pinning this to make very soon.

    3. This looks so yummy. I love the idea of having it with turkey and brie on a sandwich, but have to admit, its most likely going to be on ice cream. Thanks for the recipe.
