Decorating for Winter
Embrace the winter season by making your home cozy! Here are some ideas for Decorating for Winter.
I have always loved decorating the inside of my home for winter, because I love winter…the snow, the cold, cozy nights by the fire, hot chocolate, comforting dinners, not to mention all the skiing, snowshoeing and skating. And don’t even get me started on winter clothes…I love them. I’ll take a toque, sweaters and cozy socks any day of the year.
So it just seems like a natural thing for me, to transition my Christmas decor, right into winter decor. It feels nice to get the tree and decorations down, clean the house, then add some cozy new elements to my space. Not only does it feel fresh, but it’s nice not to have a complete empty space after a month of Christmas overload.
Last year I decorated for winter in my living room with very neutral colours, and I was just going to pull out all the same things again for this year. But then, I saw some pillows and blankets at Chapters that were on sale, and I had to have them. Honestly, these are my most favourite pillows EVERRRRR. They are everything I love…they’re cozy, I love the colours, and they remind me of a ski chalet. And they were on sale for $13.65 each! How could I NOT buy them? Chapters always has the best sales right after Christmas.
Anyway, come on in and take a little tour of my winter living space…
I bought 2 blankets and 6 pillows for my couch. I’m a firm believer in all the blankets and pillows. We just shove them aside to make room for ourselves…they’re so cozy you just want to dive into them anyway!
Aren’t they great? I feel like I’m sitting in a cozy chalet when I’m here…the great thing about these pillows is that they feel like a cozy knit sweater!
The pillows have kind of become the focal point in my living room, so I decided that I wanted to keep the rest of the space really neutral. The only extra colour I added back in were the 2 ice blue glass vases on my mantel. Other than that, everything is shades of white, brown and cream…all reminiscent of my winters here in Alberta.
My mantel is really simple…I reused a few things from my Christmas home…the candles, the birch sticks and the chunky knit garland.
This chunky knit garland was one of my favourite purchases from the holiday season…I found them at Crate and Barrel back in November. When I saw them I knew they would be great for my Christmas decorating, but I what I really envisioned was to have them in my space for winter decor after the holidays. They’re so cozy and pretty. And because I was missing all my twinkly Christmas lights, I decided to wrap a string of fairy lights around the knitted garland…I love fairy lights because they don’t get hot at all, so I don’t need to worry about them.
I also tied a garland around the birch logs. In hindsight, I wish I had bought a few more of these. I guess I’ll have to learn how to do some chunky knitting…it’s been on my to-learn list for years! Maybe this winter is the time.
I really love this space right now…it feels cozy, comfortable and makes winter time feel great! My Miss Molly loves it in here too…I had to include a picture of her…she’s my fave 😉 I actually thought she would destroy the pompoms on these pillows because she’s obsessed with pompoms on toques, but she hasn’t touched them!
Thank you for coming on a little tour of my living room all decorated for winter! Do you decorate for winter?

Everything is great and cozy and warm, but all the pom Poms, especially the turquoise ones, ruin the whole warm, wintery feel of everything else in there, and way too many pillows. The rest of the decor, furniture, etc., is lovely!!
Ruin everything? What’s to be ruined? I love my space…it’s so cozy.
I like the turquoise. As a spot color, it compliments the black and grey tones nicely and has a subtle hue that’s not overpowering. The lights in the mantle rope also added a cool accent. So many small additions have a big impact on the whole. Very nice!!
P.S. You can’t have too many pillows.
Thank you Duff! xoxoxo
