Classic Creamy Coleslaw Recipe
This Classic Creamy Coleslaw Recipe is creamy, crunchy, tangy and a little bit sweet. Make it in just minutes with simple ingredients!
Oh coleslaw…a classic salad that doesn’t really get the attention it deserves. But when you think about it, it’s such a pretty, delicious and healthy salad. And what other way is there to get picky kids to eat cabbage? 😉
The thing about coleslaw is that it’s delicious served in many different ways. It’s excellent served along pretty much any summer BBQ recipe, but we especially enjoy it on pulled pork sandwiches.
The dressing on this coleslaw recipe is creamy, tangy, a little bit sweet and it pairs perfectly with colourful cabbage, carrots and green onions. I could eat a giant bowl of it.
This is a great recipe for a potluck or giant crowd…it’s easily doubled and transports well. Enjoy!

This Classic Creamy Coleslaw Recipe is creamy, crunchy, tangy and a little bit sweet. Make it in just minutes with simple ingredients!
- Prep Time: 20 minutes
- Total Time: 20 minutes
- Yield: 6 servings 1x
Ingredients
- 1 small/medium head of cabbage (shredded (I use half green cabbage and half purple cabbage))
- 2 – 3 carrots (shredded or sliced thin)
- 2 green onions (sliced thin)
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 2 tbsp white vinegar (you can use white wine vinegar)
- 1 tbsp white sugar (if you like your coleslaw sweeter, feel free to add more)
- 3/4 tsp seasoning salt (like Lawry’s)
Instructions
- Mix together all of the ingredients. I use a hand blender to make the dressing creamy and smooth. Note: This recipe makes quite a bit of dressing, so add it slowly to the shredded cabbage mixture, and add as much dressing as you need.
- Toss salad, serve and enjoy!
Creamy Coleslaw Recipe Tips:
- You can use a bag of pre-shredded cabbage to make this salad.
- I like to use both green and purple cabbage for this salad, it looks visually pretty.
- For a little extra sweetness you can add a shredded apple to the salad.
- This coleslaw is best served the day it is made. It will get a little watery if left overnight, but it’s still delicious.
