A festive welcome to you!

Welcome to Part 1 of my holiday home tour, I’m excited to have you here! Today I’m sharing my home decorated for the holidays, and along the way I’m also sharing some simple ways to decorate for Christmas.

Christmas on the Porch

One of my most favourite areas to decorate for the holidays is my front porch. We all really enjoy coming up to our home after being away and seeing this festive and cheery little area. Decorating a porch or front step doesn’t have to be complicated…it can be as simple as adding a festive holiday wreath, or going all out and adding all. the. decor. This year I made a really simple Christmas Swag that I think looks so nice on our front door.

Another easy way to add a little Christmas to your outdoor entryway is to add fresh greenery. Garlands, wreaths and mini evergreen trees are perfect festive decor!

And don’t forget a little holiday plaid! 😉 Also, how cute is my mini yarn wreath on that birdhouse?!

My Christmas Living Room

Now moving inside, come on in to Christmas in my living room! I know, I know, I do plaid every year. But we just love it too much to give it up, after all, isn’t tradition what Christmas is all about? Also, I can’t just reinvent Christmas every year…the very thought of that makes me feel exhausted.

Things do look a little different this year with the addition of our new couch. I just knew I’d love all of my plaid pillows and blankets on my white couch…and I love it more than I even thought I could. Pillows and throws are the BEST holiday decor!

My Christmas Village Mantel

This year I did decorate our mantel differently than I usually do! It all started with a tiny wooden house I found at Walmart then the next thing I knew I bought 6, then I bought 5 ceramic houses from Crate & Barrel and now it’s a whole Christmas village and I love it.

Christmas in the Kitchen Nook

Another space that I really love to decorate for Christmas is our kitchen, but especially our eating nook. I don’t add a lot of decor in here, but just enough to look festive and pretty. Sometimes just setting a festive table is decoration enough!

My favourite decoration though is another Christmas tree! I absolutely love having a tree in my kitchen area…I often wonder why I haven’t always done this. It adds such a nice, comforting feeling to this area of our home, especially at dinner time with the soft twinkly lights.

I adore the Scandi-feel to this tree.

In this eating nook area I also made a little hot drink station on the chest of drawers I keep in the corner that stores all of my kitchen linens and tea. It’s nice to be able to help yourself to a warm holiday drink!

It’s also the perfect spot for a hot chocolate bar for the MOST delicious hot cocoa recipe ever…you should try it this year!

My Christmas dog.

Seriously though, look how cute my little boy Blu is! He’s the perfect Christmas decoration…and he loves all the plaid too haha

My Tips for Simple Christmas Home Decorating:

  • Hang a Christmas swag or wreath on your front door.
  • Decorate your kitchen for the holidays. Add simple decor like festive tea towels, hang wreaths on cabinets.
  • Put a little Christmas tree in your kitchen. The lights are so pretty at dinner time!
  • Add festive pillows and throws. Fill your couch and chairs with pretty Christmas pillows and throws.
  • Decorate your mantel or a vignette.
  • Create a Hot Chocolate Bar with cookies!
  • Add candles and twinkly lights. There is nothing more cozy than pretty lighting.
  • Change out your hand soaps in the bathrooms to ones with festive scents.
  • Add fresh greens to your home, both inside and out! Fresh greens smell so good and look so nice.
  • Decorate your staircase with garland! Evergreen garlands are gorgeous draped along staircases.
  • Add cozy and festive flannel sheets to your beds. We love this, especially the kids!
