Is there any better combination than bananas and peanut butter? Really, peanut butter and anything? If I could, I would eat peanut butter by the spoonfuls, that’s how much I love it. So when I set out to make a banana bread, I thought it needed peanut butter…because seriously, yum.

For this recipe I used my tried and true banana bread recipe and added smooth peanut butter to it. And it makes the most delicious peanut butter bread! Banana-y and peanut buttery. Throw in some chocolate chips and you’re going to want to eat the entire loaf. You will.

  • ripe bananas
  • smooth peanut butter
  • butter
  • sugar
  • eggs
  • flour
  • baking soda, baking powder, salt

Peanut Butter Banana Bread Recipe Tips:

  • PEANUT BUTTER: Use smooth or crunchy peanut butter, not natural pb.
  • ADD CHOCOLATE CHIPS: Chocolate makes everything more delicious! You can add 1/2 to 3/4 cup milk chocolate chips, semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips.
  • PAN SIZE: I use standard loaf pans for loaves (1 lb. Pan: 8″ x 4 1/2″ x 2 3/4″ inch loaf pan).
  • STORAGE: Keep this loaf covered in an airtight container or wrapped in plastic wrap, at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • FREEZING: This loaf freezes well. Wrap tightly and keep in the freezer for up to 3 months.
  • OPTIONS: If you like nuts in banana bread feel free to add 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans or peanuts.

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 1 1/3 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 mashed ripe bananas

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Line a loaf pan with parchment paper. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, salt, baking soda and baking powder. Set aside.
  4. In a separate bowl, use a mixer to cream together the butter, sugar and peanut butter until smooth.
  5. Add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, and mix until until it has the consistency of brown sugar.
  6. Beat in the eggs one at a time.
  7. Fold in the mashed bananas.
  8. If you’re adding chocolate chips, stir in 1/2 – 3/4 cup.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan.
  10. Bake for about 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the centre of the loaf comes out clean.
  11. Let cool on a wire rack for at least 1 hour before cutting.
