Good blinds make good neighbours!

Recently I was given the opportunity to work with the online Canadian blinds retailer, Shade Works Window Fashions Inc. on a project in our bonus room.  Our bonus room is our children’s playroom, TV room, and general hanging out space, and over time it has become quite run down.  Everything is showing much wear and tear, so we’ve been slowly fixing up this space and making it a nice place to be for everyone.

A couple of years ago we painted the walls a cheery yellow colour, added some artwork, and most recently we replaced the blinds.  Over the 8+ years that we have lived here, the blinds in this room have taken a beating, and they were downright embarrassing.  Not only did they look terrible, but they didn’t work either.

Of the 5 sets, only 3 would even open, most sets were missing slats and over time they just seemed to get too heavy for the strings.  So it was time to replace them.

As you can see they look quite bad.  Sagging, missing pieces, just not nice to look at, at all.  They even looked bad from the street…we were starting to look like THAT house.  You know THE one.

But now…

We’ve got NEW blinds, and are loving how fresh they make the bonus room look!  We are actually quite impressed with how much these new blinds have changed the look of this room, even though they are a similar style of white blinds.

At first the idea of ordering and replacing new blinds was so daunting, but are we ever glad we did it.  We’ve never installed blinds on our own before, so we were a little hesitant, but the whole process from measuring, to ordering, to installing was much easier than we ever could have expected.  Plus, the biggest bonus for us was that we were able to complete the whole ordering process on-line.  Choosing blinds online was easy and very convenient…I was in my PJ’s for the whole process haha!  First I chose a few blinds from www.shadeworks.ca that I thought I might like, and within a few days I received small free fabric samples.  These samples were helpful in our decision making process, as we were able to mix and match the different samples to see what worked best with our décor.  Right away I was able to decide which blinds I liked best, and we chose 2″ Faux Wood Horizontal Blinds in white.

Once we had the style of blinds picked, we followed the Shade Works measurement guide to make sure we ordered the blinds in the right sizes.  I have to admit I was a little nervous that we might have measured incorrectly, but when the blinds arrived they fit the windows perfectly!  Not only that, they were easy to install which was a huge relief (we actually had the blinds for a couple of weeks before we even installed them because we were nervous!).  When we finally tackled the install, we had the old blinds removed and the new ones up in less than an hour.  WHAT WERE WE WAITING FOR??!  If we can do this, you can do this.  Trust me.

And look how pretty they are in here!  We’re so pleased!  And now we’re not an embarrassment to the neighbourhood.  It’s all good in the hood ‘oer here.

Now we have more work to do in this room  I’m hoping to paint the trim and the window seat this summer, as well as add some proper seating for the kids…all in good time!  The new blinds were a great start!
