How to Make Cinnamon Sugar Breadsticks:
With this recipe you can make 16 – 6 inch breadsticks. You will notice that the dough is quite airy, and it’s supposed to be, these breadsticks are fluffy and soft! Here are some quick tips: (refer to the recipe card below for the full recipe and instructions)
- On a floured piece of parchment paper roll the dough out and shape it into a 10 x 12 inch rectangle.
- Brush with the melted butter.
- Sprinkle on the cinnamon/sugar mixture, making sure it’s spread out in an even layer.
- Cut the rectangle horizontally through the middle.
- Then cut the dough vertically into 1 inch strips. You should end up with 14 strips of dough.
- Twist the dough about 5 times then place the strips onto 2 greased baking pans. They don’t have to be perfect.
- Cover and let rise for about 15 minutes, until the breadsticks puff up in size.
- Bake.

Step 1. Roll out the dough.

Step 2. Slather in melted butter.

Step 3. Cover in cinnamon and sugar.

Step 4. Cut into strips.

Step 5. Twist and place on a baking sheet.

- Prep Time: 15 minutes
- Bread Machine Time: 1 hour, 30 minutes
- Cook Time: 10 minutes
- Total Time: 1 hour 55 minutes
- Yield: 14 breadsticks 1x
- Category: Bread
- Method: Bread Machine
Ingredients
Breadstick Dough:
- 1 cup warm water
- 3 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- 3 cups all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 tsp bread machine yeast
Cinnamon Sugar Topping:
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
Instructions
Making the dough:
- Measure all of the above dough ingredients, in the order that they are listed, into the bread machine.
- Choose the ‘dough cycle’.
Prepping the breadsticks:
- In a small bowl mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Once the bread dough cycle is complete, remove the dough from the bread machine pan, and place it on a lightly floured surface (I lay it out on a lightly floured piece of parchment paper).
- Roll the dough into a 10 x 12 inch rectangle.
- Brush the dough with the melted butter, making sure to get it right to the edge.
- Sprinkle the cinnamon/sugar mixture over the melted butter, making sure to cover the entire surface of the dough in an even layer.
- Cut the dough in half lengthwise (right down the middle horizontally). I use a pizza cutter to do this.
- Then cut the dough vertically into 1 inch strips. You should end up with 16 strips of dough.
- Lightly grease 2 baking sheets with vegetable oil.
- Take each strip of dough and twist it about 5 times, then pinch the ends. Place on the prepared baking sheet (8 sticks to a baking sheet), about an inch or more apart. The dough may slightly untwist but you can leave it that way or re-twist it.
- Take any excess butter/sugar and re-sprinkle it on the tops of the breadsticks.
- Cover with a tea towel and let rise for 15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
- You can place both baking sheets in your oven, just stagger them slightly for better air flow.
- Bake for 10 – 12 minutes. When they are done, the breadsticks should have puffed up slightly, and should be golden brown. When you tap the tops, they will sound hollow.
- Serve immediately.
I hope you enjoy these cinnamon twists! Have a delicious day!
