5 Tips to Create A Fall Porch
With these 5 simple tips, it’s easy to create a pretty Fall Porch to welcome your friends and family!
Hello friends! This week I’ve joined 24 blogger friends as we come together to share some outdoor fall decorating inspiration! These are part of the Seasonal Simplicity Fall Series hosted by Krista of The Happy Housie.
One of the first places in my home that I decorate for different seasons and holidays is my front porch. I love extending my holiday decor from inside, outside to the porch. Here are my 5 tips for decorating a porch for fall!
Mums are always a showstopper flower!
I mean who can resist a perfectly round pot of mums this time of year? Not this gal. I have to hold myself back when I see rows of them in stores everywhere time of year! And the colours? SO many options. For my porch this year I decided to carry on the burgundy theme I have going on inside my home with a couple of mums in matching colours. I placed two on one side of the steps, then I balanced them with 3 more white mums on the other side.
I like to create a sort of path with the mums, lining each step as you go. I dare you not to pet the tops of them…everyone does it when they come up to the door!
Aren’t mums so pretty?
Shop around your garden!
This time of year I’m ready to put my spindly summer petunias into the compost bin but if you look around your garden you might find some pots that would look lovely on your fall porch. Things like lavender, herbs, and grasses. I had a pot full of herbs and a rosemary plant that were still quite vibrant, so I tucked them in amongst the white mums.
Don’t forget the pumpkins.
Is it even fall if there are no pumpkins?! 😉 To finish everything off I layered in a whole bunch of faux pumpkins. The more the merrier…and as the season moves along and jack-o-lantern pumpkins arrive, I’ll be adding those too. I love this time of year.
Put a welcome mat on it!
One of the easiest ways to add a little fall flair to your porch is to add a festive mat. I scooped up this cute mat at Michaels, and laid it over my existing one…I’ve jumped on the layered mat trend with both feet, I love how it looks!
String some lights.
I LOVE string lights. I love the soft and lovely light they cast at night out on our patio, so I thought why not put them on our front porch? I have 3 sets of lights up in the ceiling area of the porch that I strung in a swooping way, making it feel like a garden party. Sometimes I come out here at night just to sit because it’s so pretty.
It doesn’t have to be perfect.
Truth be told I found it quite challenging to decorate our porch for fall this year because the door colour threw me off. I love the green colour but I think it needs to go…in fact it’s time for a new door…anyway… I admit that there are times when I lose sight of the fact that things don’t have to be perfect. Sometimes good enough is good enough. And green door or not, I am happy with our fall porch this year. It’s cheery, cute and festive…and it makes me happy every time I come home. That is what it’s really all about.
