Summer Home Tour

Welcome to my Summer Home Tour with simple and pretty decorating ideas to bring summer into your home! I hope you leave inspired to decorate your own space!

Today I am joining Marty at A Stroll Thru Life for her Summer Home Tour! Make sure to check out all of the gorgeous summer homes from other bloggers at the bottom of this post. If you’re coming over from Suzy’s home at Worthington Court, hello and welcome!

Welcome to my summer home! If we haven’t met already, I’m Jo-Anna, and I’m really happy to have you here!

My Simple Summer Porch

Let’s start my Summer Home Tour on my porch…this is where I hope we will be welcoming back friends and family very soon…I cannot wait!

Minimal is the name of my game this year.

Our porch is very minimally decorated this season. I wanted it to feel airy for summer, and be free of clutter with only a few plants and decorations. I started with two hanging baskets of grass that I found at a locally owned greenhouse, and absolutely had to have them! Aren’t they amazing?! I love how boho and wild they look. I love how bright green they are and how they pop against our black door.

In keeping with the grass theme I found myself creating around these baskets, I also added a small little planter of this bluegrass.  I love it.

Things don’t have to be perfect to embrace them!

Now don’t look too close at my porch…it needs to be repainted and I just haven’t gotten around to it yet…this spring we’ve been doing boring things like getting our roof redone and our back deck and garden repainted, so next up is this area!  But truthfully, I’m also procrastinating because I’d like to completely redo this area but I’m not sure what that looks like yet…all new decking? A larger porch? New colours?  So it is how it is at the moment, and I guess that’s just real life too isn’t it?!

Now I’ve been gabbing on too long on the porch, it’s time to come on in!

Summer in my Living Room

There have been a few changes in my living room since you might have visited in the spring. I was influenced by Cassie at Cassie Bustamante, and added a new rug which changes the whole look of this room and I love it!  I wanted something completely different from what was in here before…this room needed a visual impact like this rug.

White + Black + Green = GORGEOUS!

This rug just adds so much texture and vitality to this room! And because I love pops of green against black and white I added some live plants and few green decor pieces…I love this fresh look for summer. I also added a new wooden coffee table to this space…this was a long overdue addition and I’m so happy with it.

My Summer Mantel

Last week I shared my summer mantel along with some simple mantel decorating tips, but no home tour is complete without a mantel shot, so here it is again. I think this is one of my most favourite mantels yet. I love the plants, and pops of green and all the different textures.

My Blu Boy

Also, look how big my Blu bug has gotten (he made his blog debut in my spring home tour haha)!  What a little cutie.  He’s almost 7 months old and is quite a character…he’s definitely added a lot of laughs and craziness to the house, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Summer in the Kitchen

Now let’s turn away from the living room and towards the kitchen. The main floor of our home is open concept so because of this I like to decorate the entire space, including the kitchen.  Again, I kept it very simple and only added a few seasonal things like fresh flowers, new tea towels and a new rug.  I’ll be sharing more of my summer kitchen later this week, so come back for that on Wednesday!

A Peek Outside!

We’ve also been busy in the backyard planting the garden, filling pots with flowers, painting the deck, and decorating so we can enjoy it all summer long. It’s amazing how much work even a little urban yard can be, but I love it.  I’m going to share a full look at our summer yard with you soon, but for now he’s a quick sneak peek!

  1. So so pretty! I’m obsessed with those hanging baskets. What are those grasses called? I really want some and will have to go on the hunt.

  2. Oh I love the new rug, it really does add tons of textures and pattern. The pops of green you’ve added for summer are perfect. Your home is always so lovely and inviting. Thanks so much for joining the tour this season, I love visiting to see how you decorate for each season.

  3. Thanks for the lovely tour! The new rug looks fabulous and I love the colours white, black and green too! Lovely to be on this home tour with you!

  4. Jo-Anna, I think you are so right about so many things! Perfection is restrictive and you are so right to say things don’t have to be perfect to be perfect in our homes. Your home is inviting and so pretty and I’m green with envy about your plants. They are amazing! Give Blu a pet and a treat for me! Happy summer!

    1. Thank you Yvonne! I’m really trying to embrace non-perfection…if there’s anything I’ve learned over this last year, it’s patience and non-perfection takes a lot of it! I’ll make sure to give my Blu a pet! 🙂
