Creating a Fall Flower Arrangement with end of summer stems and grasses is a simple and pretty way to bring a touch of autumn into your home!  Whether you’re using foraged stems or grocery store flowers, creating something beautiful is easy.

Thank you for stopping by today!  This post is part of the Seasonal Simplicity FALL DIY blog hop hosted by my friend Krista of Happy Housie. Make sure to check out all of the fall ideas and tutorials from my blogger friends in the links at the bottom of this post!  xo

Here we are and it’s already September.  How we jumped from March right to September at lightning speed is beyond me…what a strange time it’s been.  But I am grateful for the change in seasons here, as I always look forward to decorating my home to match them…it feels comforting to do so.  Especially when it becomes time to decorate for fall…fall decor is my favourite.  To kick off my fall decorating, I put together this simple and inexpensive fall flower arrangement.  I love love these colours in my fall home!

I’m here for the fall colours!

When it comes to fall colours I embrace them all…the rusts, the oranges, yellows, reds, golds, burgundies and sage.  What a beautiful palette nature has given us!  These beautiful colours are never more obvious than when you take a look at a late summer field of flowers.  Gone are the vibrant colours of summer, now the muted tones of autumn are on display.  And I’m here for it!

A Simple and Rustic Fall Bouquet

On a recent trip to a local sunflower and u-pick farm, I made a quick stop at their u-pick flower fields to gather a bunch of grasses and fall stems for a fall arrangement.  I watched many people approach the field and turn away…I think they were hoping to find more traditional flowers.  But I saw a field full of fall flower bouquet potential.  I have a deep love of grasses and unexpected flower stems.  So with much enthusiasm I cut a beautiful bunch of stems..can you believe I only paid $6 for them?!  I almost fell over.  I wish I had bought more.

Look beyond traditional flowers.

The idea is that I want to inspire you to create your own fall bouquet using stems and grasses that you may not think to add to an arrangement.  But each are so unique and beautiful in their own right, and when they come together they make the most unusual yet stunning bouquet.  I love looking beyond traditional flowers for arrangements…this is where foraging is so fun!  This bouquet is made up of grasses, yarrow, and many stems that I don’t even know the names of…I wish I did though…I’m considering growing them in my cut flower garden next year.  Just look at all of the rich autumn colours and textures.  So beautiful!

Have fun with your arrangement!

So as soon as I got home I gathered my stems and set about making this simple and rustic fall bouquet.  I just moved stems around until I had a bouquet that I loved.  I started with the tallest stems in the centre, and worked my way out from there, finishing the arrangement off with the low hanging grasses along the outside.  I absolutely LOVE how it turned out.  Rustic, textured, and so so lovely.  Here’s a sneak peek at how it looks in my fall home tour which I will be sharing with you soon!

5 Floral Arranging Tips:

  • Work in groups of odd numbers.  So 3 stems of this, 5 stems of that.  Odd numbers seem to display better.
  • Start with tall feature stems in the centre of the arrangement, and work out from there.
  • Cut the stems at an angle to allow for better water uptake.
  • Remove leaves and any foliage that will be in the water.  Removing them will make your bouquet last longer.
  • Change the water daily.
