What I’m Reading Today…

Do you like to read?  Are you like me and have 6 different books at the same time on your nightstand?

I’m a big reader.  Always have been, and hopefully always will be.  I tend to read anything…I’m very eclectic in my book reading, and am by no means a book snob.  If it sounds good I’ll try it out…and let me tell you it’s a rare day that I won’t finish a book I’ve started.  Even if I don’t like it…but there have been a few, and one such book actually appears on this list.

So anyway, here’s the stack of books that are on my nightstand as we speak.  And these don’t include the stack of cookbooks I’m reading right now either…I’ll show you those another day…I’m a bit of a cookbook hoarder.  🙂

  1. The Book of Awesome by Neil Pasricha.  We got this book for Christmas from my sister, and it’s the greatest feel good book.  A fantastic collection of random awesome things.  Stuff like “Picking the perfect nacho off someone elses’s plate.  Awesome!” Or “The moment at a restaurant after you see your food coming from the kitchen but before it lands on your table.  Awesome!”  So fun, and SO relatable!
  2. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.  This is the second time I’ve read this book.  It’s such an easy read with such a great story.  I loved the movie too, but have to admit I did like the book better, but only because you get to know the main character better, and follow a bit of his life in his seniors home.  I wish I could give him a hug.  🙂
  3. The Maze Runner by James Dashner.  SO good.  Intense.  Very intense.  If you liked The Hunger Games or Divergent books, you’ll likely find The Maze Runner a good read too!  This is a ‘young adult dystopian science fiction trilogy’.  It’s so hard to describe, but if you want to know more about it, here is the link to the author’s website.  Did I mention that it’s SO good?!  😉
  4. The Big Bang by Linda Joffe Hull.  This book was sent to me to review (such a great perk of being a blogger!  I love book reviews.  Love love them!).  It’s an easy read into the steamy and complicated lives of a suburban neighbourhood.
  5. The Wheat Belly by William Davis MD.  Whoa what a read this one is.  This Dr. delves into the health dangers of modern wheat in our diets.  It’s very very scary, and makes me want to throw out every last speck of wheat in the house.  In fact my husband & I are almost 100% wheat free since January 1 (and he’s already lost over 10 pounds).  It’s very, very interesting.  It’s an especially good read for anyone who suffers from any type of weight issues, intestinal problems, skin rashes, mental health…the list goes on).
  6. The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling.  This is the much anticipated adult novel from the Queen of the Harry Potter books.  And it’s also the book that I cannot, absolutely cannot get through.  I’ve tried.  I’ve really really tried.  I don’t like it at all.  But I really wanted to!  😉
So that’s what I’m reading right now?  How about you?  Any good book recommendations?  I’m always looking for a good book!
Happy Reading!

  1. Awesome!! I wish I was more of a reader. I always have a t least one book I’m reading. But, I go days and days without reading. And, when I do sit down to read, I usually can only get through 3 chapters before my eyes get sleepy. I’m more of an “easy read” type gal. I love Elizabeth Berg books, and of course, I read the entire “shopaholic” series by Sophie Kinsella. Lol.

  2. I love that you’re eclectic in your taste in books! I am very much the same. I’m not too familiar with “Water for Elephants” but one of my favorite actresses, Reese Witherspoon, was in the movie so I would really like to see it and likely read the book! Currently, I am in the process of reading “Life of Pi”. I saw the movie and really enjoyed it, and I’ve been told the book is amazing.

I also wanted to just say how much I love your blog. I’ve been following it for some time now but I don’t think I’ve ever commented. Your home is really beautiful and I love your style! Your blog is one of my favorites to read. 🙂

  3. Oo, I’m going to have to check out the maze runner. And I’ve heard that about The Casual Vacancy! Bummer. I want to try and get through it, though. I’ll have to pick it up sometime.

  4. Jo-Anna, how is the wheat-free thing going? We just started a few days ago and we’re finding it difficult. My husband more than me…
