DIY Mason Jar Soap Pump

Well my love of old Mason jars keeps on going…this time it’s a DIY Mason Jar Soap Pump! As you know from my previous posts on my jar obsessions, I love me a good jar. And I love being able to reuse pretty things!

Around Bloggyland, I had seen these soap dispensers, and thought they were so pretty, but just didn’t really know how I could make my own.  Suddenly one day I felt inspired, so on the weekend my hubby bust out the drill, and a pretty Mason jar soap dispenser was born.

Isn’t she lovely?!

What You Need to Make Your Soap Pump:

  • Mason Jar
  • Jar lid
  • Pretty paper to jazz up your jar.  Cut it to fit and cover your tin lid.
  • A pump from an old dispenser.  I took mine off of a lotion jar from the grocery store.  I think you can also buy these at craft stores.  But any old soap dispenser will do.
  • Glue gun.

How to Make Your Soap Pump:

  • Drill a hole in the centre of your lid, so that it is big enough to fit the bottom portion of your pump.
  • Assemble.
  • I used the glue gun on the bottom of the lid, to make a seal between the soap pump and the jar lid.  This will also help to prevent the lid from rusting.
  • Be pretty and pump on!

  1. thanks for the tip! I made one for the bathroom but the lid rusted really bad so I am going to try the hot glue trick. I also have one for our toothbrushes and another for combs. Looks great in my outhouse decorated bathroom.

  2. I think that any jar will do as long as it has a good tight fitting lid, the straw part can be cut to size….

  3. They have the blue mason jars at Ace Hardware in my area and they can also order in the green ones for you if you ask them.

  4. Great project. Unfortunately, our church uses Mason jars every Super Bowl for a soup and sub fundraiser, so I never have any spares. In fact, back in the 70s when I was just a Flower Child, I bought 12 dozen Mason jars for canning. Well, that CHORE didn’t last into another season and the jars were washed, re-boxed and placed in the attic when we moved. Then I donated them for the “cause”.

Just curious . . . if you drill a hole in the lid to fit the size of the pump dispenser — shall we call it the “straw” — and then you glue it TO the jar, HOW will you refill it??? And what kind of soap are you using ??? Thanks.

  5. PS: The front page displaying your site called the project a SOUP dispenser. I’m like Whaaaaa? That’s what really led me here, but now that I see it’s a SOAP dispenser, I like it even better ! ! ! LOL…

  6. I made one and I loved it until it rusted on me. 🙁

  7. Hello, thank you for sharing your tutorial. I love the idea. I found a box full of mason jars last weekend at a yard sale and I was looking for some ideas to use them for crafts.
