Kitchen Kapers: DIY Fruit Fly Trap
How to make a Fruit Fly Trap with just 2 ingredients! Kills fruit flies quickly!

It can’t just be my kitchen that has been invaded by fruit flies?! Please tell me it’s not… We eat a lot of fruit, so I guess that means a lot of flies? TMI? All I know is that I have HAD it with them. Time for battle….muwahhahahaha!
I’m here to tell you that apple cider vinegar works to kill them. It does my friends, it really does! In 15 minutes I had 3 flies in the mixture. A couple of hours later, more, then none. Gone. Poof. Good-bye little bugs, I won’t miss you.
How to make a Fruit Fly Trap:
- In a glass add apple cider vinegar: I used about 1/2 cup.
- Add a couple of drops of dish soap (I read that this helps the flies fall in.)
- Set the cup in the area where they seem to be – for me that was by the fruit bowl.
- Wait.

Easy peasy.

Love apple cider vinegar!! Such a handy recipe!
I was just about to google a solution to my pesky problem! Thank you!
Awesome, I can’t wait to try it we have fruit flies taking over the kitchen, it seems every time we go buy fruit we bring ten new flies home.
– Much love, Kim
I periodically have trouble with these too. I will have to try this method. Thanks for sharing!!
Another method is to take a small cup of juice (Orange is what I usually use) drop a few drops of dish detergent in there, and leave on the counter by your fruit. The flies are attracted to the juice, stop in for a drink and then die from the soap. Usually I put this in the middle of my fruit basket and change it every day or two (you only need a couple TBS of juice) works like a charm.
This looks absolutely delicious and I LOVE your blog! Great recipe for SRC! xoxo
Yes! This works well. I never used the dish soap, but I poked holes in plastic wrap with a toothpick and put it on the top. They could never get out!
I need to get me some apple cider vinegar then cause they are driving me crazy and nothing works. I made an apple juice trap and got rid of like 30 of them in a few days but they keep multiplying no matter how clean we keep the place.
wow perfect timing! We have had a horrible problem for a week….we always have tons of fruit in the house and it does get eaten, but two banana purchases ago we started seeing these little beggars and last purchase I ended up throwing out next day as they were covered…very gross…i had heard that anything sweet worked and actually used a piece of banana but it looks gross and smells quickly. It did work though and fingers crossed I think we licked the problem….and are going to be buying our bananas elsewhere for a while…as well as apple cider vinegar!!!
You have no idea how much this post excited my husband. 🙂 We have no idea where they’re coming from — they’re nowhere near the fruit! LOL They love the sink area where the ants come in…near the snapdragon plant? Of course WE have the weirdo fruit flies…
