House Tour: My Boys Shared Bedroom

Yesterday I posted my daughters tween girl bedroom, and it got me thinking about my boys room.  We haven’t really done much with this room since we moved the boys in together.  We just hung new curtains and added a few little things.  This room doesn’t have a theme, and it’s not all matchy-matchy, but there’s just something about it’s eclectic-ness that I adore.  And I love that each side of the room seems to suit each of my sons.

And it’s back to that thing I’ve learned, where you just have to let your kids have their own sense of being and style.  Would I love the room to look like an immaculate, perfectly decorated room from Pottery Barn?  Sure.  But we’re on a budget, plus my kids have opinions (crazy that?!) and what I like, most of the time they don’t!

Anyway, come have a look!

It’s a small room, so getting everything into it was a challenge!  We knew we needed to have beds with drawers and shelves because there’s just not the space in the room for 2 dressers.  So it’s a bit tight, but it’s homey too!

Then we tackled putting the bedding together.  The bedding doesn’t match, obviously, but there’s something about the way this room doesn’t match that works.  Plus I think that the polka dots on the walls kind of tie everything together.  All the colours are complimentary enough that somehow it does match?

But what I love the most is how cute it is to see both of my boys laying in their beds in their shared room.  It makes me feel so cozy and happy.

Each side matches each of my boys.  This side of the room belongs to my 3 year old, so it’s a little ‘cuter’ but not too babyish.  This side of the room also has the biggest wall, so we hung a world map on it.  The boys love it and and are constantly naming places in the world to visit.  Love that!

This side of the room belongs to my 9 year old son.  It’s a little more grown up but not too grown up!  (I don’t want them growing up too fast!)

So that’s it!  That’s my boys room!

I really like to try to keep things real, so I’m sharing this room with you because of its realness.  I love it, my boys love it, and it’s a REAL LIFE room.  We live a real life, in a real life home, with real life decorating.  No show home here (I’d love that but…).  Plus, I couldn’t leave my boys out of a room spotlight on the blog!  (they notice these things…)  😉

Thanks for coming by!  Have an inspired day!

  1. Love it! Eclectic is the way to go 🙂 I also love that your 2 boys, although sort of far apart in age, can happily share their room together. That says a lot about their upbringing 🙂

    1. What a nice thing to say Ali! Thank you! (you made my day honestly!)

    1. Elaine, you are absolutely right but you forgot to mention the green and blue spots on the wall. Looks amazing..!!

    2. Thank you Elaine! I’m realizing that my decorating style is more eclectic than I thought! 🙂

    1. Thanks Megan! I wasn’t sure if it was going to work having them share a room, but so far it’s been great!

  2. I love that all the kiddos have the same lamp only in different colours. Aren’t you amazed by my attention to detail? 😉 ha! one day I’ll be able to do a house tour…. one day. xo

    1. Good eye! Love those lamps and couldn’t pass them up at $5 a piece! Awesome!!

  3. I absolutely love it! I love how real it is. I think those of us on a budget can definitely relate to keeping things classy, but cute especially when we don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on a kids room. I’m in the middle of redesigning my kiddos room too. What use to be Jungle themed and Disney Princess will soon be a room filled with One Direction posters and a room with Disney’s Cars, lol. How time flies, eh?! Where did you get the comforters from? They’re adorable!

    1. Thank you LaQuita! It’s so hard when you picture the room looking one way, but kids have a mind of their own haha! And SO true about time flying! I don’t know when it happened that my girl was decorating with Dora one day, and the next One Direction!
P.S. the skateboard comforter is from Costco a couple of years ago, and the green & white animal one is from IKEA just recently!

  4. It looks like the sweetest room for 2 brothers. So nice that they are side by side! My girls shared until recently, and they are very close. I remember having a big map on my wall when I was young – it was my favourite thing!

    1. Thanks Dani! I love having them together too! It’s so cute!

  5. Love that they each get a side of the room to fit their personality :). We used to have that Ikea bedding, too–so cute!

    1. Thanks Gretchen! It’s always fun trying to match things for different personalities!

  6. I love this! I think its fabulous that the spreads don’t match, but they go! So cool!
