This Simple Green Salad with Homemade Mayo Dressing is a delicious and easy addition to dinner!  A perfect salad for fresh summer greens. Ready in 5 minutes.

This salad dressing is made with 3 simple ingredients:  mayonnaise, milk and sugar.  SO simple.  But sometimes the most simple things are the best, and this dressing is proof of that!

A Family Favourite Recipe

This is my favourite green salad of all time…every time I eat it, I am whisked away back to my childhood. Memories of warm summers, fresh greens, gardens and family.  My mom would make this dressing every summer…it’s THE BEST on fresh garden greens. And I have also since discovered that this recipe was one of my Grandpa’s favourites, making it even more special.  I hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

It’s all about the dressing.

This really is the most simple salad dressing you will make, but don’t let that fool you, it’s SO delicious. All you need is mayonnaise, milk and sugar.  This simple combination pairs perfectly with fresh summer greens…this is the only way we eat summer salads!

Garden or Market Fresh is best!

I tend to make this salad only in the summer because I think the dressing is the best on fresh garden greens. So if you can, hit up your garden or Farmer’s markets for the freshest ingredients you can get.

Simple Green Salad Recipe Tips:

  • Milk: I just use regular 2% milk, but you can use 1% or 3% too.
  • Sugar: This recipe calls for 2 tsp of sugar, but I often make it with just 1 tsp.
  • Mayonnaise: Use real mayonnaise, not mayo dressing.
  • Use a hand blender: I like to use a hand blender to make this dressing…it makes the dressing so smooth and creamy.
  • Additions: Our favourite is a simple salad of fresh garden greens, green onions, chopped apples and tomatoes. Sometimes I also like to add in arugula, mustard greens, spinach, beet leaves, Swiss chard, fresh green beans, peppers, radishes, and fresh herbs like dill, parsley and chive blossoms. Delicious.
  • Dressing Thickness: If you find that the dressing is a little thick, feel free to add a little more milk.
  • Double the batch for a bigger salad. I also like to double or triple the recipe and keep the dressing in a glass jar in the fridge to use throughout the week.

Really liked it. I used red onion and miracle whip as I had that on hand, and I put a little salt and pepper in dressing. But super great recipe.

Did you forget to add vinegar to your recipe? I made it the way you have it and it is to sweet and tastes a little like melted ice cream. I added aple cider vinegar and it is fab!!!

    1. Hi Marsha! I make this dressing without vinegar and we love it. I’m happy you made it the way you like it too.
