7 Tips for a Simple Fall Tablescape
A Simple Fall Tablescape with all the coziness of fall…plaid, fall leaves and of course pumpkins! Setting a pretty table for fall suppers has never been easier.
There’s something about fall that inspires me to decorate everything! Honestly, next to Christmas, fall is my most favourite season to decorate for. I love all the details that go into making a home feel cozy…fall leaves, wreaths, pumpkins, plaids, pillows, soft blankets, and pretty table settings…give me all of it!
Keep it Simple!
Any time I set the table for a special gathering, my goal is to keep it as simple as possible. No one has time to set up anything too elaborate after a day of cooking! So I always try to come up with a table setting that is quick to create, and that uses simple pieces from around my home. They key is to invest in some timeless pieces like dishes and linens that you can use from season to season.
This fall tablescape that I’m sharing with you today is so easy to create, making it perfect for any fall supper, and even Thanksgiving. It’s even simple enough for a Sunday dinner with your family.
Start with the Dishes!
I like to start with my set of white dishes and go from there. A couple of years ago I decided to make a small investment in some simple white plates, saucers and bowls. The basic colour and style of them will match any time of year, so all I have to do is change the details with the seasons…things like napkins, plate chargers, flower sprigs and centrepieces.
Think Outside the Traditional Tablecloth
Then I think about the tablecloth and napkins. For this setting I actually used a soft, washable plaid blanket for the tablecloth (I found this one at Chapters). Often I can’t find what I’m looking for with table cloths, so I look for other options like blankets and scarves. Blankets and scarves are great affordable options, and you can usually find many different colours and styles.
Don’t Forget the Napkins!
Napkins are a lot easier to find than table cloths, and most places have many options. These plaid napkins are also from Chapters and they match nicely with the blanket table cloth. When I’m placing the napkins on the table, I like to layer the napkins between the dinner plate and the side plate. I think it looks so pretty. Then I topped each table setting with a sprig of faux fall leaves that match.
Keep the Centrepiece Simple
I can’t resist a seasonal centrepiece on my tablescapes! But I have learned over the years to keep them simple and easily portable, because when dinner arrives to the table, you need space for all the delicious dishes. No one can eat your centrepiece, so it has to go. For this table setting I placed 3 faux pumpkins and few leaf sprigs on the table to make it look pretty before everyone sits down to dinner.
Set the Mood
Even though it’s not technically part of this tablescape, I wanted to share a quick look at a little decorating I did in our eating nook. I have a set of drawers in our nook that I use to store linens and dishes, and because it’s right next to where we eat, I like to decorate this area as well. So I hung a fall wall hanging and added a little patch of pumpkins…all pretty fall things to set the fall mood!
It’s the perfect touch to this area…and I love how you can see it off in the background. Pretty.
Make it Your Own!
So that’s my Simple Fall Tablescape…I hope you feel inspired to set your table this fall! Have fun with the colours, use your favourite blanket or tablecloth, lay out some pretty napkins and put out some pumpkins. The decorating is up to you!
Nothing left to do but get to the table for dinner!
