The Caesar

Now, if you are a Canadian you know what this drink is!  (And it’s not a Bloody Mary!)

It is…

…and it’s virtually unknown, and not consumed outside our borders!

First a little history! (collected from Wikipedia) This delicious drink was invented in my city in 1969!  As a matter of fact, May 13 is Caesar Day here.  It’s delicious!  Now don’t get weirded out by the ingredients!!

Caesar Recipe Tips:

  • Now what is Clamato Juice you ask?  It’s a mixture of clam and tomato juices, made by Motts.  Weird, I know.  But so, so good!
  • We like to use celery salt instead of plain salt, both in the drink and on the rim.

Another great drink with Clamato, is Beer & Clam!

Clamato juice with beer is the best!  This is my most fave alcoholic drink evah!  Just pour a beer in a glass, and add 3-4 oz Clamato!  Yeeeuumm!

Is it Happy Hour yet!  😉

  1. I’ll have to save this recipe for my Fella ~ he’s a huge Caesar fan! Funny you mention that it’s not a drink known outside Canada. We were in Seattle a few months ago and my daughter ordered one. After an attempt at describing the drink, they gave her a Bloody Mary. Definitely NOT the same thing!
    Cheers!!

  3. Haha! I saw this picture and instantly said out loud ohhh yummy a bloody mary! But I was wrong. Pretty cool that your city invented its own drink!

  4. I had no idea this was a Canadian drink! I’ll have to have a Caesar and some Smarties and celebrate being a Canadian!

  5. That sounds very, um, interesting 🙂 I love a bloody mary but I’m a little worried about clamato. But, I ate some crazy stuff recently so I’ll have to try this!

I never knew it had a name, but this drink IS consumed outside of Canada. It has quite a following in the Philadelphia, PA, area. OK, by “following” I mean me and my family at least. I highly recommend it and now know it has a real name other than Clamatty Mary! I am one if its biggest fans.

  8. I have to share: my dad invented, as far as I know, a non-alcoholic drink that he calls “The Bu-mato Cocktail.” It is a mixture of buttermilk and tomato juice. He would probably like it with Clamato juice, too. 🙂

  9. I LOVE all the comments!
