Ice Bubbles
Happy New Year my friends! Yes, you are in the right place! I gave the ol’ blog a little makeover to kick off 2015! I’m loving how fresh and simple it is…I actually feel like the look suits me so much better. I absolutely love it, and hope you do too!
Anyway, I hope you all had an amazing Christmas and holiday season…we sure did. We spent Christmas with my parents at our home this year, and had a wonderful time! But I admit I heaved a small sigh of relief when the big day was over. There is so much lead up to Christmas Day…so much excitement, so much planning and cooking. I love it all, but am relieved when it’s over.
I actually really love the time in between Christmas and New Years. Someone said it’s like a week long Sunday and to me, that’s exactly what it feels like! The big work is done, and it’s just time to relax, enjoy our gifts, eat all the food and spend time with our loved ones. Fantastic. This year we drove out to my parents place to spend this week and it was just what we all needed. The weather was perfect for spending time outside on the lake skating, we enjoyed real fires and ate a tonne of delicious food! We really, really needed this quiet time and are so thankful to have such a beautiful place to escape to (thank you so much Mom & Dad!).
One of the winter activities we love the most is skating on the lake…it’s right out the back door ready for us to enjoy. How amazing is that?! And this year the lake was smooth as glass and perfect for skating…we were out every day! This year the lake was also full of ice bubbles that had us completely mesmerized, as you may have noticed from my Instagram account. I honestly could have taken dozens of photos…I could barely stop myself!
They’re so fascinating, so I wanted to share them with you!
If you brushed off the ice you could see them just under the surface. The kids were in awe! I was too…I don’t know what it is that I love so much about them, I just do.
This is how they look when you are looking at them from directly above. In the black ice they so beautiful!
Then, when you look at them from the side view, this is what you see. You can see how far down some of the bubbles actually go. How incredible!
This set of bubbles were my absolute favourite. I love how they are stacked on top of each other!
There were also some other beautiful shapes in the ice. These burst were all over the place…I don’t know how or why they formed but they’re so interesting. They’re like little explosions, or fireworks. Weird but pretty!
The kids spotted some fun shapes in the ice too – I love their imaginations! They thought this one looked like a ghost, and I’d have to agree!
And here’s a whale they found too…so so so fun! Sometimes the most fascinating things are right under our noses, and all we have to do is look down to see them. Seeing these bubbles has inspired me to get my family out into our world and see more…experience and see new things…just get out and touch life! Sounds like a good plan for 2015 doesn’t it!
Happy New Year to you all! I am looking forward to this new year!
