Decorating for Valentine’s Day on a Budget
Simple and pretty ideas that you can use for Decorating for Valentine’s Day on a Budget!
I don’t do a lot for Valentine’s Day, but I actually really like this little ray of sunshine in an otherwise dreary winter. When you haven’t seen the sun in weeks, putting out decorations full of colour is so very welcome. And I’ve learned over the years that I don’t need to add much decor to make things feel pretty. I’m sharing our oh-so-very-simple Valentine’s Day living room with you today, as well as few simple tips to decorate your own space on a budget.
Simple Felt Heart Garland for Valentine’s Day
Over the years I’ve decorated my mantel with string light garlands, sting art, and little Valentine decorations. This year I decided that I wanted to completely change things around, but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money. So I set off to the Dollar Store, and Michaels with my 45% coupon, in search of some really inexpensive decorations. Honestly I didn’t find much…this is where I tell you that I miss Target. Oh how I miss Target here in Canada. Sigh. Anyway, all is not lost, I did end up finding a few simple sweet decorations.
At the dollar store I found both of these pretty garlands and both of them combined cost me less than $10! Seriously, it doesn’t get cheaper than that. The felt hearts are my favourite though…this garland is actually 2 strings that I glued together to make one long one. It’s so cute. I also ran a string of fairly lights through it to add some soft lighting.
A Simple and Pretty Valentine’s Day Mantel
Then I paired the felt heart garland with a pretty little wooden heard twine garland. Perfectly simple decorations for my mantel. I also bought that cute little XOXO decoration from Michaels.
Decorate for Valentine’s Day with Fresh Flowers
Fresh flowers are THE best decoration. I can’t resist the buckets of tulips that find their way into the grocery stores this time of year…I’m so grateful for their cheer in the middle of our arctic winter!
Toss on Pretty and Colourful Pillows
You know my love affair with pillows by now, I’m sure! I didn’t buy any new ones this year…I happily brought out my favourite pink and red pom pom pillows to add a pop of colour. I also brought out my pink pillows that I use for decoration in summer…I find soft pink to be a great neutral decorating colour in my home, so these work well almost all year round.
Use Candy to Decorate for Valentine’s Day
Candy is such a simple and inexpensive decoration for Valentine’s Day. Not only does it look pretty and add a pretty pop of colour, but it’s delicious too! Put out some candy hearts or pink marshmallows in glass jars…simple and lovely. I have these in my kitchen space, but you could add candy jars to your coffee table in the living room. By the way, I found these pretty heart shaped marshmallows at Bulk Barn.
So there are my simple decorating tips for Valentine’s Day! Easy and budget friendly ideas that add some cheer to your home this time of year.
