Bokeh Okay!

The Bokeh effect.  Twinkle, twinkle

I’m getting a wee bit tired of doing cooking posts, so I’m going to take a teeny break from them (probably only 1 day, because I know myself better than that!)  I have a secret dream to have my own cookbook, so every time I make something I’m seeing it in a picture, in my very own book, and for now, my blog fills that void.

But today I’m going to talk cameras.  I am not a photographer.  I have never taken a course. But I do tend to look at everything through the eyes of a camera – I see picture opportunities everywhere, and I so appreciate amazing photos.  I dream of snapping perfect photos all the time, and I dream of knowing everything there is to know about my camera. For my past birthday (it was a mini-milestone birthday), my husband bought me an amazing camera. Perfect for me, has automatic capabilities, but can get fancy if you want it to.  I’m determined to own it!
So lately I have been drawn to some photography blogs, and I found this one that is so amazing. I would love, love, love to take pictures like them.  It is called Kevin & Amanda. Their photography is my style.  I just know it.  I drool over their pictures, and they make me want to master my camera.
I love lights, coloured lights, white lights, sparkly, pretty lights in the night.  And I love the look of blurred lights.  It’s so pretty and ethereal.  This effect is called Bokeh , which is “the blur, or the aesthetic quality of the blur”.  On the weekend the blog, ‘Kevin & Amanda’, posted a Bokeh tutorial about taking pictures of Christmas lights, and I just had to try.  So I devoured their tutorial and bugged my husband (who is a naturally amazing photographer himself), and I took some photos that I just love!  So fun! The things you can do with your camera are just amazing!  I’ve only done part of the tutorial, and the next part is making the lights appear in different shapes by putting a small cut-out of the shape you want over your lens.  So creative!  I’m going to tackle that today, and will post my pictures.  But for now, here is what I have done !  Have a look at that blog too, if you are interested in how to do it!
This is before.

This is after.

Snap happy!

I’m also sharing this at Sweet Shot Tuesday over at the blog ‘Life with my 3 boybarians‘!

Here are a couple follow up shots from a newer post Bokeh Part II and Bokeh Again?
