My Holiday Home Part 1!

I’m so excited to be a part of Lowe’s Holiday Home program which has allowed me to completely transform my home into a classic Christmas wonderland!  This year I’m fully embracing my love of the traditional holiday colours of red, green and white, and I’m mixing things up with plaids, faux fur and a tonne of natural elements!  And I can hardly wait to reveal it all!

For this project I decided to give my main living space a Christmas makeover, including the tree, my mantel, and the staircases.  And as I talked about in my last post, this year I’m inspired by plaids, reds, greens, faux furs and rustic elements, which completely opposite of what I’ve done in years past.  So armed with my list of ideas, last Thursday night my husband & I hit Lowe’s for date night!  Doesn’t everyone go to Lowe’s for date night?  No, just us?

My husband is such a good sport!  I think he enjoyed this shopping trip as much as I did!

The biggest change we were going to make in this space was to the tree.  For my entire life I have had a real Christmas tree, and would never even entertain the idea of having a ‘fake’ tree!  HOW could anyone have a fake tree?  Well………I get it now.  Artificial trees have come a long way over the years, with so many different kinds to choose from, including gorgeous flocked trees.  I have seen flocked trees make an appearance in stores over the last couple of years and I was very drawn to them.  They remind me of the frosty trees I am used to seeing in our northern Alberta winters.  So when I saw that Lowe’s had one, I decided this was going to be the first year for an artificial tree…the only hurdle I had was now to convince my family.  But, I knew this wouldn’t be too hard, because this tree is G.O.R.G.E.O.U.S.

Ahhhhhhhh…can you just hear the angels singing?

Now that I had the main element of the room picked out, it was time to get all the decorations.  This was so much fun because there were a tonne of items to choose from…garlands, pillows, decorations, candles, snow globes, tree skirts, stocking and so many beautiful ornaments.

Some of my favourite ornaments that I found though, are these gorgeous glass ones.

I actually can’t believe how beautiful the ornaments are…I am even more smitten seeing them all tucked into their pretty packaging.  They reminded me of Christmas’s as a kid, when we would decorate our tree with ornaments all carefully wrapped into compartments by my mom.  There’s something so special about carefully tucked away ornaments.  And it’s a special treat to once again have some delicate glass ornaments.  Don’t get me wrong I think shatterproof ornaments are a genius invention, but glass is a treat.

Aren’t they pretty?

Now that was just a little sneak peak, and I can’t wait to show you how it all came together!  Make sure to come back and see the final reveal in a couple of days!

Have an inspired day!
