My master bedroom has always been a decorating conundrum for me. For some reason I could never see a vision for it…there are just so many gorgeous ideas for master bedrooms, so I always froze when it came to this room. For the longest time it remained builder taupe, then I painted birch trees on a feature wall that I loved, but over time I just knew the trees weren’t what I wanted in my room.
All I did know was that what ever we chose to do in this room had to work with the furniture we had, and that the room had to end up fairly neutral and bright. Pretty vague, and not much help to ourselves, eh? 😉 I even posted a poll on my Facebook page to see what you all thought…and there were so many great ideas, so again it was hard to decide.
Since we used CIL Paint for our office transformation and loved its coverage, we are using CIL paint again. So we brought home a bunch of different coloured CIL Paint chips and taped them up to the walls to help us to decide what colour to paint. And immediately my husband & I were drawn to the light steely blues. They were airy and we knew they would look fab with the black furniture and white curtains we had up in there.
Whew. We had a place to start.
So before we get into the paint transformation I have to show you again what the starting point was. Here is our room with the birch tree stencil.
Here is our room BEFORE:
I loved it, but our room needed a change.

Here is our room AFTER:
Ahhhhh. Doesn’t it just make you breathe better?!
We decided on CIL Silver Streak 50BG 7 6/023 W/B, in Eggshell. We are so happy with this colour. I can’t even tell you. It has completely transformed the feel of our room. I feel a sigh of relief every time I walk into our room. True story.
This colour has just made all the white shelves, trim, curtains and bedding POP. In case you don’t know by now, I have a deep love affair with all things white. I would paint everything I owned white…but the husband…not so much. So this colour is a perfect compromise! And I love how it looks different colours in different lighting…some areas look almost grey, some look more blue…
And it’s a perfect match to the quilt we already had, so that was super lucky! Now I don’t have to buy any new bedding. In fact, I feel like I can now have some fun with adding some pops of colour to our room. I’m loving the idea of adding pink, teal, yellow and green pillows.
I’m going to go with an eclectic-farmhouse type feel in here (is that even a thing? it is now haha)…with different textures, colours and fun accents. I feel like the background colour is neutral enough that I can now have some fun with decorating.
Our next project with this room is hanging a gallery wall above our bed. I’ve already started gathering frames, pictures, fabrics and paint. I can’t wait to get it all hung up!
So there it is. Phase one of our room makeover. I’m loving the paint transformation…it’s truly amazing how a couple cans of paint can completely transform a space.

Here are our project details:
- First we lightly sanded down the stencil. The stencil causes a slight elevation of paint, so in order to not see a shadow of the trees, they had to be sanded down. Then we made sure to wipe away the dust and got painting!
- We used CIL Realife Interior 100% Acrylic Latex Eggshell in Silver Streak 50BG 7 6/023 W/B. We didn’t have to do any priming because the paint coverage is so good. We just applied 2 coats and our room was done! Fantastic!
I can’t wait to get this room done…now I just have to find some gallery wall inspiration! Have an inspired day!
Disclosure: I was provided the paint for this project, by CIL…so A BIG thank you to CIL for making this room transformation possible! We love our newly painted room!
