Lemon Sugar Scrub (a homemade recipe)

Lemon Sugar Scrub
This Lemon Sugar Scrub is a simple and gentle scrub you can make with just 3 simple ingredients! Makes a great gift too.
Hello friends! There is so much fun and inspiration for you here today! I’ve teamed up with a group of talented gals to bring you some handmade gift ideas for Mother’s Day! There really is nothing like giving and receiving a handmade gift…they’re just so full of love! So I hope that all together we can give you some ideas to make the Mother in your life feel really special!
So to kick things off, the handmade gift I wanted to share with you is this Make-It-Yourself Lemon Sugar Scrub! It really does smell as good as it sounds.

Just 3 Simple Ingredients!
This DIY lemon sugar scrub has simple and clean ingredients, all you need is a fresh lemon, granulated sugar and coconut oil. Mix it all together and you have a wonderful sugar scrub which is perfect for scrubbing your hands or any other parts that need a good exfoliation (the sugar exfoliates and the coconut oil moisturizes). I really love to use it on my hands and legs especially in the dry winter months…smoooooooth skin anyone? 😉
This homemade sugar scrub has the most lovely sweet citrus scent. And can I just say that it also tastes delicious? Yes I tasted it and I don’t regret it one bit. I figure if I’m going to put it on my skin, I should be able to eat it right? In fact it tastes so good that I would actually consider spreading it on top of warm vanilla muffins. Oh yes I would.

Homemade gifts are the best!
Homemade scrubs make such a nice gift. Put it in a pretty jar, add a cute label and pretty ribbons, then give it as a gift to your Mom, sister, Grandma, friend or daughter…they’ll love it! You can find cute jars at the dollar store, or just use small mason jars.
How to Use This Lemon Sugar Scrub
Apply this lemon coconut sugar scrub to damp skin or dry skin, gently massage a small amount in circular motions, then rinse with warm water. Sometimes I like to use this gentle sugar scrub as a body scrub in the shower. Sugar scrubs are best for exfoliating hands, feet, elbows, knees, arms and legs. I would never use this on my face because it’s just too rough for sensitive skin. Also, just a word of caution, because this has coconut oil, it will make your feet slippery, so please just be careful if you’re using it in the shower or tub.

Lemon Sugar Scrub Recipe Tips
- LEMON: Use real lemon juice and zest from 1 fresh lemon.
- ESSENTIAL OILS: I prefer to use fresh lemon, but you can add lemon essential oil instead (about 5 – 8 drops).
- SUGAR: Just use regular white sugar. I have also made this with brown sugar and organic cane sugar.
- COCONUT OIL: Use pure, unrefined coconut oil for body sugar scrubs (it’s solid).

Do you suggest melting the coconut oil before mixing, or not necessary? I haven’t worked with coconut oil much before. Thanks!
Hi Christine! I don’t recommend melting the oil, it actually mixes really easily when it’s in a solid state.
Can I use olive oil instead of coconut?
I’ve never tried using olive oil.
