Sweet and Sour Meatballs

These Sweet and Sour Meatballs are a family favourite!  Delicious served with rice and a veggie.



Beef Meatballs:

  • 1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion (minced)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 cup oats or bread crumbs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • salt & pepper

The Sweet and Sour Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tbsp vinegar
  • 2 tbsp soya sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup


The Meatballs:

  1. Combine the meatball ingredients, then shape into meatballs, about 1 1/2 inches in size.
  2. Bake the un-sauced meatballs in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes. Or until centres are not pink.

The Sweet and Sour Sauce:

  1. While the meatballs are baking make the sweet and sour sauce.
  2. In a saucepan combine all the sauce ingredients and bring to a low boil.
  3. Whisk and cook until the sauce thickens.
  4. Pour the sauce over your cooked meatballs, and heat in a 300 degree oven for about 20 minutes before serving.
  5. Serve with rice and vegetables.
