Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 3 cups dried noodles (I used rotini noodles)
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion (minced)
  • 1 celery stalk (minced)
  • 3 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp ground mustard (optional…I like to use it because it adds flavour)
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1 (5 ounce) can tuna (drained)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheese (marble or cheddar is great!)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large pot of salted water boil the noodles until they are al dente. Drain well and set aside.
  3. In a large skillet (one with high sides) on low/medium heat, melt the butter, then add the minced onions and celery.  Cook until the onions are soft and translucent.
  4. Then stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.
  5. Stir in the mustard powder if you’re using it.
  6. Whisk in the milk and simmer until the sauce is thickened.
  7. Then stir in the tuna, simmering for about 3 minutes.
  8. Stir in the noodles.
  9. Transfer the mixture to a 9×13 baking dish.
  10. Sprinkle on the shredded cheese to cover the top evenly.
  11. Bake uncovered for 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbling.
